w1kwhLt Colonel retired Paul Carother, 85, of Norwalk, died Sunday, June 1st, at the St. Regis Health Care Center in New Haven. He was the husband of the late Margaret Hughes Carothers. Mr. Carothers was born in Norwalk August 28, 1917, son of the late William Alexander and Pauline Sokoloska Carothers. He was a self employed electrician (Carothers Electric). Mr. Crothers was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Command and remained with the U.S. Air Force Reserves until the 1970s when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion, and was a 30 year member of the South Norwalk Boat Club. Mr. Carothers, whose family dates back locally to the founding of Norwalk, was also a member and Past Great Sachem in Connecticut of the Improved Order of Redmen Cockenoe Tribe No.32 Norwalk, the Mayn Mayano Tribe no 46 of Greenwich, the Redwing Council 41, and was also a member of the National Order of Redmen.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Ann Carothers-Sorensen of Norwalk, a step-daughter Sarah “Sally” Hughes Emro of Ridgefield, 2 sisters, Jean Pettygrove of La Crecenta, CA and Marjorie O’Grady of Norwalk, a brother, William Alexander Carothers,Jr. of Dry Fork, VA, 4 grandchildren, Hendrik Soresen, William, Thomas and Christine Emro; his companion Josephine DePino of East Haven, 4 great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donal Carothers.
