GNARC Equipment Trailer

Our new trailer has arrived! More details to follow!

Winter Field Day a Huge Success!

On the last weekend in January, a few of your fellow club members participated in what turned out to be the most well attended Winter Field Day in the history of the club. On the radio side, despite the bands not cooperating 100%, we made 222 contacts over the 24 hour period. I would like to first thank the technical committee, because without all of their hard work installing and maintaining the station, none of the operation would have gone as smoothly as it did. Special thanks go to Mark, K8ZW, for making more than half of those contacts. Special thanks also go out to George, AB1QK, who operated the overnight shift. In total, we had 9 operators, which for a Winter Field Day is a great turnout.

What was really awesome was the total turnout for the non-radio portion. I’d like to believe that it was the transmission of RF radiation that drew hams from as far south as Stamford and as far north as Waterbury to our Comm Center. We had a total of 16 people visit us during WFD, and we were treated to Rachel’s delicious chili dinner and quiche breakfast. The topics of conversation were varied, and we also got to enjoy many delicious desserts, as well as endless pots of coffee. I would like to thank those of you who assisted in the clean up on Sunday morning. Your ability to make the center spick and span again was greatly appreciated by those of us rendered too sleepy from operating through the night to do it as efficiently ourselves. Sad you missed out? Come out to the Comm Center during the week on Monday and Thursday nights, plus Saturday mornings, for miniature re-enactments of this great event. Sure, they’re not contests, but DX, friends, and good coffee are always fun too.

73,

Sam – NV1P – WFD coordinator, Rachel – KB1VWJ – Club Secretary

November meeting topic

This month’s meeting we will have special guest Larry Reid, AB1JC, who will be presenting an update on the Discovery Museums balloon project.

Beam is fixed

The beam has been repaired. During field day, it was noticed that the SWR was jumping around. One of the metal pieces that comprises the log periodic part of the antenna was loose, so as the antenna moved, the connection was intermittent.

Thanks to N1LLL, W1FSM, N1PLH, N1ZD, WB2JVB, AB1QK, W1DVE for assisting during various work sessions! And thanks to FD for providing a safe platform for us.
